Saturday, June 30

Fairly kicked back day today. Hit a laundry mat and got all the laundry done, picked up Bobs dive bottle, nothing exciting.
We went and toured Pearl Harbor. Wow, very impressive visitors center. It was really cool and very educational, really enjoyed it. Came back and went to dinner with a cruising couple that Bob and Becky know. They are from Anacortes, Wa and have been out for about 10 years. They will be leaving to make the crossing home about 5 days after us. Good dinner at the Hawaii Yacht Club. Pic above is taken from our table at dinner.
Tomorrow is our last day for last minute details, provisioning perishables, etc. Almost time to make the jump.

Provisioning

Today's big accomplishment was inventorying the food supplies, making a list of needed items and making the trek to Safeway to stock up. Got all the dry and canned goods today, Sunday we will pick up the fresh items, fruits, veggies, etc.
Also got to watch a bit of the local sailing race tonight, they have a regular Friday night race event. Looked like about 25 or so boats out playing. Really looked like fun.
Going to play tourist a bit tomorrow and go visit Pearl Harbor. Then one last day of last minute details and we will head out.

Ham test 2

Continued to work on the boat today to get it ready for the jump back to Oregon. Misc. busy work, filling fuel tanks etc, make the day go by fairly quickly. Learned today that the marina office is closed Saturdays and Sundays and we need to check out and turn in keys, etc. so it looks like we will be leaving on Monday as soon as we get things settled up.
The weather here continues to be fairly nice followed by a rain shower or two. At least its warm and doesn't feel like Astoria. :)
I'm working on trying to get the winlink email figured out. I sent a test email earlier through it but it was sent through a wireless internet connection. Obviously there won't be many Starbucks with free wifi out in the middle of the ocean so I need to get the HAM radio connection thing ironed out. If you are reading this on the blog, it worked.
Ok, going to sign off here and try to make the connection.

test email

This is a test email from winlink via Ham radio.

We (ok Bob) continued to work today to get Stardust ready for the trip home. Yesterday we got the job on the furler and all the spare cans filled with diesel. Today was a bottom cleaning, hoisted Bob up the mast to change out the tricolor and misc busy work.
In the pic you can see Bob's blue dive tank underwater while he scrubs the prop and rudder.

Arrived

Got in last night. Felt awfully god to step out to 73 deg temps at dark. :). Trying to figure the schedule for the day, what work needs to be accomplished.
Still playing with this blog idea and seeing what might work. I'm going to work tomorrow on trying to figure out the email via ham radio system to see if I can sent these updates through it.
